A great website must have perfect color combinations, from the background to the foreground, the menu or navigations must be properly working and the pages must be logical.  Conceptualizing a layout may become confusing especially to novice developers and often ended up consuming too much time or redoing layouts after layouts. When it comes to layout issues, my suggestion to my web developer friends is to use either a Template or a CMS.

Templates are skeletal system of a website. It is a pre-filled layout and serves well as a guide or a walkthrough. Templates are pre-built in top HTML editors like Dreamweaver and can also be downloaded for free in the internet or for a small payment in template retail sites like www.themeforest.com or www.templatemonster.com.

Another great solution is to use a CMS or Content Management System. CMS are web systems with amazing back end and front end features. There are numbers of CMS available for free and are found in the cPanel of your website. Some of the popular CMS are WordPress, Joomla, Mambo, ZenCart and Moodle. There are different types of CMS for you to choose depending in your web designing needs. There are CMS for blogging such as wordpress, for e-commerce such as the shopping cart OpenCart or for education like Moodle.

CMS were also logically developed. The menu or navigation can be created easily. The post and pages are also in logical order and is very modifiable and it’s backend uses the latest database platform like MySQL while the front end uses PHP so it is very standard and web 2.0 compatible.

So if ever you got stucked in a layouting or designing issue, use a template or CMS. It will save you a lot of time and lets you deploy better websites. And in some cases, much better than what you originally planned.

Fantastico De Luxe v.s. QuickInstall http://www.domaintalkblog.com/2010/10/17/fantastico-de-luxe-v-s-quickinstall/ http://www.domaintalkblog.com/2010/10/17/fantastico-de-luxe-v-s-quickinstall/#comments Mon, 18 Oct 2010 02:59:29 +0000 Emmanuel Dato http://www.domaintalkblog.com/?p=76 Continue reading →]]> The best thing about hosting and getting your domain name from a prominent hosting company is that they provide you free software to ease up your daily web development activities. Almost all hosting provider provides a cPanel with loads of software at your disposal, if your hosting provider does not have a cPanel – dump them and replace them.

I personally love Fantastico De Luxe. It made my blogging life easier. But there is a new contender now – The QuickInstall.

The question now is whats the difference?

Well both Software offers pretty much the same function, which is to install script fast and easily – you probably have noticed it with their names – Fantastico (fantastic!) and QuickInstall which means obviously fast install.

Fantastico De Luxe offers top blogging scripts such as WordPress, B2Evolution, and Nucleus and the best CMS (Content Management System) available now such as Drupal, Joomla, Mambo, and PHP-Nuke and eCommerce sites such CubeCart, OSCommerce, and ZenCart plus dozens of other scripts for image hosting, project management, wikis, mailing lists and more.

QuickInstall offers virtually the same. Maybe a few added new scripts or a few missing less popular scripts – but basically, its almost like a clone of Fantastico.

As of now, I cant proclaim a winner but I am sticking to Fantastico De Luxe – it’s tested and it is giving me what I want. QuickInstall is still new and the developers admits that it still has bugs. Maybe I’ll shift to QuickInstall when it is already bug free.

Both Fantastico and QuickInstall are free software so why not try them and experiment and choose which software performs best for you.

As for me, Im sticking to Fantastico for now. Yes. For now.
